Update on my back – scoliosis June 2, 2008

I had some follow-up x-rays done this last month and the results were very surprising.

The curve in my back has gone from 22 degrees to 8 degrees AND my neck curve has gone from -4 degrees to 15 degrees.  I might be a little off in my numbers, but you get the picture… my back is getting straightened out and my neck is getting more curvy (both good things)!

I have had many less episodes of sciatic nerve pain in my low back and down my legs.  Life is good.

Thanks Dr. Craig!

Sorry to barge in without knocking. My Google Alerts found your posting on scoliosis, which is something I seek out because my daughter has scoliosis. Would you mind giving more details, such as your doctor’s location? Our daughter is 11 and has two pretty extreme curves. We are doing everything we can to avoid surgery. Again, I apologize for the intrusion.
THANKS!

I also have two curves and they were not extreme, but they were definitely scoliosis.

My treatment with Dr. Craig Volzke here in Lincoln, NE consisted of:

-3 chiropractic adjustments a week
-traction on my neck to eliminate the reverse in my neck curve (separate from my scoliosis issue)
-traction on my back to pull my lower scoliosis curve back to straight
-Now, I’m at 1 appointment every two weeks.

Also, once I learned where and which way my back was curving I would try to arrange pillows under me when I layed down to pull it back to where it “should” be.

Dr. Craig didn’t make any promises that this treatment would be a magical solution, but in the end it has worked for me to experience much less pain in my days, and has straightened me out a bit. I don’t know if this will work for everyone, but it has for me.

Surgery, from what I’ve read, should be avoided until all else fails (I’m sure you’ve heard this before)… so this was my “less-invasive” approach to try to get better without going under the knife.

Good luck to both of you. Hope you find relief from your/your daughters pain, soon.
